Hello and welcome to my May 2026 newsletter. Thank you for joining me!

I recognize a bit of an unintentional theme unfolding this year. Lately my newsletters have become an intersection of real estate and the incredible people I get to meet along the way. And honestly I couldn’t let this month pass without sharing one more extraordinary artist with you. Even as someone who deeply values Albuquerque’s creative community, I still find myself in awe of the talent that exists here. Time and time again, I meet artists who have chosen to call this city home. And every time I’m reminded that there is something powerful and potent about New Mexico. The landscape, the light, the energy seems to draw in dreamers and visionaries. The people who don’t just create art, but translate something deeper into reality.

This month, I’m excited to introduce you to another visionary…Jack Ox.

I met Jack when she called me to sell her house and she started off the call with “I want to sell my house, but I’m not cleaning it.” To which I responded, “I understand. There is always something better to do than mop floors.” Needless to say, we overcame that hurdle together. And now I’m excited to share that her UNM South home will be for sale soon. A home with a story worth knowing. The timing felt serendipitous, this newsletter and her home coming to market. Keep reading, I’m excited to share a few sneak peeks of the house with you. 

A true pioneer in the field of music visualization. Since the 1970s, Jack’s work has explored where visual art, music theory, science, and data meet. Essentially “painting music” by creating a correspondence between sound and imagery. What amazes me most is that she taught herself to read music at the beginning of this artistic journey. That kind of curiosity, of wanting to understand how something works, and then translating it through the lens of art is so inspiring. Her body of work reflects a lifetime of exploration, intellect, and imagination. Some of the most extraordinary people I’ve met here in Albuquerque aren’t always the loudest voices. But their work quietly reshapes how we see the world. Jack Ox is most definitely one of those people.

Jack has lived and worked all over the world, with chapters in New York City, Germany, and New Orleans before finding her way to New Mexico in 2005. Her educational path spanned Australia, Germany, New York, California, Colorado, and Connecticut. An interdisciplinary immersion weaving visual art, music interpretation, early virtual reality, teaching, writing, project management, and speaking engagements across the globe. Deeply rooted in research, Jack embodies the rare and fascinating “artist/scientist” hybrid. In many ways, that may be the clearest explanation for how naturally she fits into the spirit of New Mexico. There is something about this place that calls to those who live in both worlds; curiosity and creativity. It feels as though it was only a matter of time before she found her way here.

Her journey to Albuquerque came after time spent in New Orleans, in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. A story that echoes one we hear often. So many creatives have found their way to New Mexico through moments of transition. Relocation, resilience, reinvention. Threads that seem to run deep here. People come for countless reasons. Sometimes by choice, sometimes by circumstance. But more often than not, they end up shaping the city in ways no one could have predicted.

Since making Albuquerque home, the city has become a central hub for Jack’s work. She has collaborated with The University of New Mexico, serving as Artist-in-Residence and Research Associate at the ARTS Lab, contributing to research with the Center for Advanced Research Computing, and holding roles as a Research Professor in both the Department of Music and the Department of Art and Art History within the College of Fine Arts.

From 2015, she has also served as Creative Director of Intermedia Projects Inc., a nonprofit based right here in Albuquerque. Through this work, she continues to explore and support projects embodying art, science, and design by bringing ideas to life through public performances, scholarly presentations, educational initiatives, and entirely new forms of communication.

In many ways, Jack is also a musicologist who has spent more than three decades creating large-scale visualizations of complex compositions, including Schwitters’ Ursonate, Bruckner’s Eighth Symphony, Claude Debussy’s Nuages, Igor Stravinsky’s Symphony in Three Movements, and John Cage’s 4’33”. Her work bridges disciplines in a way that few artists attempt, and even fewer achieve. Her influence also extends well beyond her own studio practice. For more than 30 years, she has served on the editorial board of Leonardo Journal, published by MIT Press, a leading publication in art, science, and technology fields.

Look at this market recap! Inventory is down, pending sales are up, and so are prices. What I’m seeing in the field is a balanced market between buyers and sellers.
